DIARY

This main page contains Cloudland Blue : A Diary, with daily entries since 5 March 2005 (scroll down for the latest entries).

As of 5 March 2024, the diary moved into its 20th year.  By then, 6,941 days in, there had been 7,351 entries to date, of which, 148 were "picture only", across five periods:-
2022 (90): 18 April - 10 May (23); 13 - 17 June (5); 6 July - 5 September (62)
2023 (58): 21 September - 15 October (25); 18 October - 19 November (33)

It is always the intention to update those days with the relevant text but doing so is, of course, subject to opportunity (and, indeed, memory!)...

Well, a day of discovery...

Up into the attic this morning to find an Allen & Heath mixing desk I bought from old Dancers of San Martino chum, Stewart Robinson, aka Peri Urban, probably over 30 years ago now - and which I have never actually used...

I found a few things as I searched - our second shop's bag for example...

A huge apple box full of tapes - one of tens of boxes of cassettes up there...

Regular readers may recall one Fritha Lewin getting in touch recently - here is the only Call Me Clive recording on which she appears (as far as I know)...

...and here, some other examples of the Clive history...

Aha - I finally spied the desk, seen here under a cassette player, a CD recorder/player and, yep, another CD player...

...and out it came...

I took some pics to determine what should be plugged in where...

...and put the Yamaha CS5 synth through it to test it and gave a listen on headphones...

It might just work but it would be a big risk, so, back in the box it went - to be honest, it wasn't as high tech as I'd always imagined - of course, I was forgetting that it's well over 40 years old...

However, I brought down the wee MiniDisc player, which can be plugged into my recorder to transfer disc content to the hard drives...

...and so, much time was spent doing this - of course, everything has to be transferred from the MiniDiscs in real time, so it takes an absolute age - we are all so lazy now...

And so, a day was well spent/wasted - depending on your point of view...

It was, however, very enjoyable and I came across a few Crazy Wisdom recordings I'd long forgotten about including an entire unreleased LP's worth of material which Malcolm, Brodski and I recorded for Malcolm to take with him to Holland in 1999 to work on (of which, surprise, surprise, nothing ever came)...

For tea, a very, very, very tasty concoction from Anne, involving Gnocchi and sausages, creme fraiche and cheese and onions...

Yum-tastic...

...the rest of the evening was spent watching "Monk" and "Almost Paradise" as far as I recall...

Lights out...

A good day...

Some further music downloading also entertained...
