DIARY

This main page contains Cloudland Blue : A Diary, with daily entries since 5 March 2005 (scroll down for the latest entries).

148 days are "picture only", across 5 periods:-

2023 (58): 21 September - 15 October (25); 18 October - 19 November (33)

It is always the intention to update those days with the relevant text but doing so is, of course, subject to opportunity (and, indeed, memory!)...

Scenes...

I had an idea for new "Disquietmusik" creations, where in I'd combine pieces from different editions from the series, where the underlying key was the same...

So that passed a couple of hours - with no concrete results...

Post breakfast, trying out three songs for next week's Ouit of the Bedroom, "Callingstill" (1997), "A Nice Job in  Small Town" (1999) and "If I Fall" (2012)...

Not bad...

Post lunch and a "Monk" (cos Prime wouldn't load for "Almost Paradise"), down the hill with Anne to GuitarGuitar for a new set of strings...

Then, with the EP off to do stuff re her mum (hearing appointment), I hit paydirt at the Shelter shop with this quartet - 15 hours of music across 13 CDs, for just £10...

Yowsah!

Bread was also secured...

Home for listening...

...and re-stringing my almost 10 year old guitar - I suspect this is only the second or perhaps third set of strings I've applied to the instrument - which is an absolute shocker of course...

Cleaned up and looking good but some clipping required...

The view from the office this afternoon...

This evening, tagliatelle with prawns and asparagus...

Yum...

The last two (thus far) of "Almost Paradise" leaves another hole...

But "Monk" continues to entertain...

However, the majority of the evening was spent ripping today's new acquisitions...

Lights out with a BlueSky suggested Roy Harper "Lifemask" listen...

Highlight of the Day : New strings...

Happy birthday today to...

...nephew Olly...

...who hits 23 today and so this is his 1982 in my years...

Over WhatsApp, wherein I provided a plethora of pics from his birthdays past, we also discussed the music I acquired when I was around my 23rd birthday...

And so, my diary for 1982 was consulted...

Of those, I'd pick "Katzenmusik" by Michael Rother, the two LiliDrops, which I got in Paris, post our stay in London with chum Mark Stokes and our attending the shoot (and post shoot party) for the video for Soft Cell's "Torch" - from that point on, I was, of course, a Soft Cell fan - as noted in my acquisitions...

An intro to the musique concrete of Pierre Henry (also bought in Paris , from a street vendor)...

UK's 2nd and the debut from Asia...

The live EP (and studio track) from the Coop, whom we'd seen in February '82...

Eno, Kraftwerk and Bill Nelson and the repurchase of many a T Rex 7" and others by Alvin Stardust, the Glitter Band and The Sweet...

And Laurie Anderson and The Buggles...

The only real outlier on the entire diary page is Gina X Performance - which is also pretty good...

In fact, it's all good...

I was on the ball, music-wise, when I was 23 it seems...

This too was finally split into songs from the "full album" download languishing on a hard drive...

Tasty!

I also got round to starting to create a digital version of the 10 LP box purchased at the start of March...

And, as is now the norm for a Monday, I produced my latest chart re my Top 30 LPs...

...and the 50 highest ranked after 16 weeks of the year...

So, all in all, nothing much done today...

A "Taskmaster" enjoyed and "Monk" and, coming to an end, "Almost Paradise"...

Not much of a day really but good to be alive!

Highlight of the Day : Looking back at 1982...

Up and listening again to the new GLAM! and then the Leith Dockers tapes...

...the latter of which, post breakfast...

...soundtracked the trip over to Paul's to pick him up and then out to Roslin for our final rehearsal pre the wedding on 4th May...

We made our way through the four sets but only playing any songs which any one or more of us reckoned we needed to tighten up or work on...

...which amounted to 25 of the 45...

As a reward for this work, there was cake at the break...

Met up with Anne later at Jane and Bob's -  they were watching the Hearts semi final against Scotland's newest club, said club doing for the JT's 2-0...

Oh well, by way of consolation, here are fave niece Kitty's platform boots...

...and Rafa the Dog...

Tesco/Lidl for tea on the way home, haggis and mash for me, Macaroni Cheese for Anne...

In today's English semi-final, Coventry City came back from 3-0 down at 70 mins against Manchester United at Wembley to make it 3-3 at 90+6 and forced extra time...

They scored a fourth in the dying seconds of said Extra Time only to have it chalked off by VAR for a millimeter measurement offside - and then Man U had their first penalty saved but Coventry subsequently also had one saved and then ballooned one over the bar...

Such is football...

A very good "Astrid", then, to the machines, where I noted, reliability of the laptop is back up again over the last week or so, which is good...

Edited the sessions from today - 3 hours of playing whittled down to 90 minutes of music...

Some discoveries nabbed for the library and then a "Monk" and lights out...

Another good day...

Highlight of the Day : Rehearsing
